TDS is the abbreviation of "total dissolved solids", translated into total dissolved solids, also known as total dissolved solids. The unit of measurement is mg / L (mg / L). It indicates how many mg of dissolved solids are dissolved in 1 liter of water. It refers to the total amount of all solutes in water, including inorganic and organic substances. To some extent, the higher the TDS value is, the more dissolved solids are contained in the water. In inorganic materials, in addition to the components dissolved into ions, there may also be inorganic substances in the form of molecules. Since the organic matter and the inorganic matter in the natural water can not be considered generally, the total salt content is also called the total dissolved solid. Therefore, TDS mainly reflects the concentration of Ca2 +, Mg2 +, Na +, K +... In water, which has a good corresponding relationship with the hardness and conductivity of water. The smaller the TDS value, the lower the concentration of Ca2 +, Mg2 +, Na +, K + in water, the smaller the conductivity. Sometimes the conductivity value can be used to roughly understand the various salts in the solution. Generally, the higher the conductivity, the higher the salinity, and the higher the TDS value.
However, TDS can not effectively reflect the water quality in specific water. For example, in electrolyzed water, due to the significant increase of Ho - and other charged ions in the electrolyzed water, the corresponding conductivity increases abnormally. For example, the TDS value of alkaline water obtained by electrolysis of pure water with TDS of 17 is about 300.
In fact, TDS and water quality are two different concepts. TDS is only one of many water quality indicators. TDS is mainly used to detect the purity of water, which is usually used to test the quality of distilled water and purified water (reverse osmosis) effluent. The indicators of water quality include: microbial index (bacterial number), toxicological index (concentration of heavy metal ions), sensory properties (color, smell, taste, visible to the naked eye), general chemical indicators and radioactive indicators, etc.
The quality of drinking water depends on the national standard of drinking water quality (gb574-2006), the drinking water quality of bottled water (gb574-2006) and the drinking water quality of bottled water (gb574-2006). Qualified drinking water must meet the requirements of healthy and clean drinking water, must not contain pathogenic microorganisms, chemical substances and radioactive substances in water shall not harm human health, and have good sensory properties. In drinking water, excessive concentrations of heavy metal ions will pose a great threat to human health, such as lead, arsenic, chromium, cadmium, mercury and other allowable safe concentrations in 1 ~ 10 Microgram / L (1 microgram equals to one thousandth of a milligram), the size of TDS can not reflect the concentration of harmful heavy metal ions in water. As for the number of bacteria in the water, whether the concentration of organic matter is high, whether the concentration of nitrite exceeds the standard, and whether there are pesticide residues, these can not be reflected by the size of TDS. Even if the concentration of bacteria and heavy metal ions in water exceeds the standard, as long as the concentration of dissolved Ca2 +, Mg2 +, Na +, K + in water decreases, the TDS value will also decrease. Therefore, a small TDS value does not mean good water quality; a large TDS value does not mean poor water quality.
TDS pen and water quality electrolyzer are used to detect whether there are conductive ions in water. Even if the TDS value of drinking water is small, it can not exceed the standard because of the low conductivity of bacteria. Of course, if you want to determine the desalination rate of RO reverse osmosis water purifier, or the purity of water, you can use TDS pen to test. Under the same water quality and environment, the lowest TDS value indicates the highest desalination filtration.
